The simplehuman compact travel mirror was designed to take the advanced technology developed for the simplehuman line of mirrors and the experience of the simplehuman brand, and integrate it into an ultra-compact mirror that can be taken with you anywhere.
When we began to do research for this project, a search on Amazon for compact travel mirrors uncovered over 400 results, most in the $5 - $20 range. Our challenge was to design a travel mirror that would retail for at minimum 4-5 times the cost of the competition, yet create enough desire to compel customers to make the jump in price to own a superior product.
Our belief was that if we held true to the simplehuman brand philosophy, we could develop a product that would dominate the category, and set a new standard for a quality compact mirror. And we thought the way to achieve this was thru advanced technology, superior user interface, and a high level of design.
For such a small product, the sensor mirror compact is packed full of technology. It integrates a Tru-lux lighting system which simulates natural sunlight for the brightest, most color-correct view. 3x magnification using extremely high quality glass gives you a hyper-clear view to show every detail. Three light settings at 650 lux, 300lux and 110 lux let you chose your preferred brightness level. The mirror is rechargeable, and one charge lasts up to 1 week with typical daily usage.
Much attention was given to the ergonomic design and user experience of the product. A sensor turns the light on automatically when taken out of the sensor pouch, and turns it back off when put back in. A fold-out ring handle makes the mirror secure and comfortable in your hand, or can be used as a stand for hands-free viewing - and it comes with a button strap that keeps the mirror secure inside the pouch. Many mockups were made to make the product "feel" right in the hands, and the extreme attention to details and proportions gives the product a very high quality feel.
